Founded in 1931 by Alexander Poliakoff, Multitone initially manufactured hearing aids for the healthcare
market.
In 1955, working with St Thomas's Hospital,
London, Multitone became the first company in the world to
develop a new type of radio-based staff location system known
as paging.
Within the paging market, Multitone developed:
- The First Numeric Pager
- An intrinsically safe pager for hazardous environments
- The facility to simultaneously call a group of pagers
- Synthesised speech messaging
- A Talkback pager with a two-way speech capability
