Basildon Hospital

Multitone provides an improved Voice Communication Solutions for Basildon Hospital.

"unbelievable improvement that this simple solution is providing to Hospital communications".

The Mission

The Management Team within Basildon Hospital considered a number of potential solutions to improve internal communications within the site. There was a real need to provide not just effective but reliable voice and data communication across the whole site.

The Solution

Whilst radio paging from Multitone provides effective and reliable communications for the majority of hospital staff, the need for instant voice communication and the ability to receive external and internal calls has paved the way for a Multitone DECT server.

Access 6000

The Multitone Access 6000 utilises a number of radio base stations to provide full site coverage that are safe to use within the hospital environment.

A number of base stations are installed throughout the site, although the casual observer would never notice the small and unimposing transmitter's mounted neatly on the wall.

The system allows any of the current 50 users to roam freely from building to building and still be contacted, either from internal extensions or to receive calls from outside the hospital e.g. GP's.

The functionality offered by Multitone's system, contributed to a DECT solution being chosen over other mobile communication systems. Not only can it accept voice communications, but it can also receive data messages such as paging calls and can be linked to existing systems and easily expanded if and when necessary.

In fact, the system has proved so reliable and popular that it is being considered for use in nearby Orsett hospital with the ability of linking both the systems together. Staff in Basildon hospital could contact staff in Orsett Hospital by simply using a short dial code from their handset.

The Benefit

Basildon's Access 6000 system recently became invaluable when the host PBX system failed and the only internal and external lines available were via the Multitone system. As anticipated the system worked faultlessly so that not a single emergency or crash call was missed.

Reliability has always been a feature of Multitone systems and the Access 6000 carries on the tradition of having reliability built-in as standard. The system has proved to be such a success that it is planned to study the possibility of expanding its usage to include medical staff and others who would benefit from this excellent communications platform.

As a direct result of the recent problem, the hospital is now considering the option of linking their payphones to the Multitone Access 6000 system. In the event of a similar incident this will allow a simple code (allocated to the system's central administrator) to be entered into the Access 6000 and designated payphone analogue trunks will be accessed to make outside calls through the DECT server.
This is another example of the great expandability and flexibility offered by the system, something hand held radios, pagers or other systems could never have offered. Not only is the operation and usage of the system easy and user friendly so is the configuration.
