Hereford County Hospital prides itself on the highly professional and effective care it is able to
provide its patients and has made a conscious decision to expand on their current
communication system to help provide the greatest level of service and care possible.

Joint Venture

Effective communication is essential for hospitals and health care centre’s, without it the level of
care they can provide is affected. In 1994 Atkins Global purchased Multitone's Access 3000
Paging System in joint venture with Hereford County Hospital to help provide the greatest level
of service and care possible.

Atkins Global in joint venture with Hereford chose paging as their main means of communicating
with members of staff as they found increased benefits in communicating with people who are on
the move. Paging is fast, reliable and delivers time critical messaging to a single pager, as well
as the option to call and action a whole team of people.

The Access 3000 also offers a solution that is sustainable for all the departments within Hereford
Hospital, so solutions are tailored around individual staff specifications.

Atkins Global have found Multitone's paging system very beneficial and they are continuing to
see huge efficiency benefits, both through time and cost savings. Atkins Global have been using Multitone's RPR550 and RPR583 paging receivers, both of which they have found very efficient.

The Solution

As a manufacturer of paging, Multitone are continually striving to improve their products and
have since designed a new state-of-the art paging receiver, which incorporates features from the
RPR550 and RPR583, making it an all in one pager, with stored speech. This is much more
beneficial for Hereford, preventing them from having two types of pagers.

This new state of the art pager, the RPR750 and has many additional features which Atkins
Global acting for Hereford have chosen to now use as their main radio paging receiver.

Recordable speech

They have found the recordable speech a real plus and on a couple of occasions have even used it to prove that a paging call has be sent. One was during an alarm test where the Hospital CEO complained that test calls had not been sent, the second occasion was a Doctor who
complained of a missed call and again the recordable speech facility confirmed that the Doctor
was incorrect.

Bright Display

The nurses and doctors have been very pleased with the bright display, and stated, "It was much
better than the old RPR550". Its luminescent backlight is operable in all lighting conditions.

Battery Life

There has been some complaint that the 750 battery life is not as good as the RPR550, thanks
to Atkins Global’s records, we are able to prove that performance is about the same.
Battery Door Atkins Global found Multitone RPR750 battery door much more secure, though difficult to get off, this was a real plus in that it stopped Medical Staff from removing batteries, which is an instant cost saving for Atkins Global in particular and battery changing can be managed from a central location.

We asked Sylvia Baker, Switchboard Administrator for Atkins Global whether "if given a choice,
which pager would be preferred" and she stated the "RPR750 mainly due to the recordable
speech pager".
