The Mission

Multitone was approached by four hospitals in the Avon area and asked to provide a full coverage solution as medical staff would often work at more than one site. This often meant missing important calls or having to carry multiple devices that incurred cost but users were unsure which number to call.

The Solution

Multitone designed a private messaging system to offer all users in all four-hospital sites the ability to carry just one messaging device where they could be contacted easily from any site within the Pan-Avon region.

This innovative messaging system allows zero tariff calling, team calling and the ability to send pre-stored messages.

The hospitals taking advantage of this improved communications platform are the Southmead Hospital, Frenchay Hospital, Royal United Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary Maternity Hospital.

The Bristol Royal Infirmary is the location of the main processor hub from which all messaging data is routed and redirected to all other sites. The hospital sites provide medical care for the majority of the Pan-Avon region, with a large number of staff and patients.

Simplicity is the key to the new system

In mission critical situations, the simplicity of the system is important, which is why the Pan-Avon system is transparent from the user's point of view. In the case of an emergency, such as a cardiac arrest, the user can now call directly into the emergency switchboard number from any telephone.

Depending on the nature of the emergency the switchboard an operator can then send out a voice message to the relevant team members. The message is routed through the main processor hub, then simultaneously to all members of the team on all four-hospital sites.

The Benefit

Multitone's Pan-Avon communications system provides a cost-effective solution to problems associated with a large dispersed site. The system provides seamless communication on a wide scale while retaining the advantages of an on-site system. The system has also benefited users who are on call and can now use just one device for out of hours calls.

This ability to carry just one device coupled with the flexibility to manage multiple sites from any site has improved communications throughout the Pan-Avon area benefiting Medical staff but more importantly improving patient care.
